La Cámara de Diputados aprobó de forma unánime la iniciativa que busca asegurar el servicio de transporte público en periodo de elecciones populares, plebiscitos y feriados irrenunciables; compensa a los conductores y conductoras con un domingo libre al mes.
Cabe recordar que la iniciativa se originó por el mensaje del Presidente de la República, Gabriel Boric, donde habló sobre un cambio en el Código del Trabajo para asegurar el servicio de transporte público en periodo de elecciones populares, plebiscitos y feriados irrenunciables.
El objetivo de la medida es que los trabajadores conductores de estos servicios, sobre todo en el transporte rural, puedan utilizar dentro del mes en que ocurre la elección, un domingo libre compensatorio en otra fecha de ese mes.
Durante el debate, las y los legisladores valoraron la norma y el descanso compensatorio propuesto para los conductores del transporte público. Y pidieron al Ministerio de Transportes contar con la disponibilidad suficiente de maquinarias para el próximo plebiscito del 4 de septiembre.
Los parlamentarios, además, hicieron un llamado a que el Gobierno duplicara el transporte público en las zonas rurales. Asimismo, se pidió evaluar el uso gratuito del Metro, tanto en la región Metropolitana como en regiones. Esto, con el propósito de facilitar el traslado de los votantes.
El ministro de Transportes y Telecomunicaciones, Juan Carlos Muñoz, aseguró que la norma será permanente y se aplicará a todas las elecciones futuras. Y afirmó que se hará el esfuerzo para contar con la mayor dotación posible para el plebiscito.
«Hemos trabajado en modificar el decreto que permite exigir a los operadores del transporte público mayor operación (…). También hemos trabajado en aumentar la flota y en permitirle a los conductores ejercer su voto ese día«, dijo.
Por su parte, la ministra del Trabajo, Jeannette Jara, expresó que «vamos a tener una mayor demanda de transporte y es de toda justicia que las personas puedan concurrir a votar«.
La Cámara aprobó la normativa con 136 votos a favor, 0 en contra y 0 abstenciones.
